About

ME!

I’m a software engineer turned quantitative trader, hence my interests lie mainly within software architecture, analytics, exchange plumbing and dynamics within the financial system. Life is not only bits’n’numbers, and the sparetime is used with the family, trying new cuisines, exploring the beer culture (especially the, very experimental, Dutch beer scene is great!), but when the time and weather allows you will find me sailing my Laser Vortex!

This site

Having been an avid reader for many years, and actively building my “life library” - consisting of interesting books and subjects that has facinated me through the years. I have noticed an increasing appreaciation of well written articles, books and essays. It’s just facinating how a skilled writer uses the written medium as a way of communication. I especially find writers with their own distinct style interesting. Three examples of contemporary writers I like - ranging very widely in both experience and subjects, is:

  • Robert Greene (author) - Analysis within strategy and psycology
  • Sebastian Mallaby (journalist / author) - Financial biographer, known for being very precise
  • Arthur Hayes (co-founder of 100x) - Humoristic essays about economy (almost) always with a cryto currency twist

Motivation

Taking a subject, churning it through the process of wirting, forces: Understanding, structure and critical thinking, which in turn leads to manifestation in the mind and the dots getting connected. Almost any subject, left cake recipes, is interconnected and often multi-diciplined, and hence has multiple dimentions. Writing helps reducing the dimentions and get to a clearer and more concise understanding. No one has said it better than the founder of the worlds biggest book shop:

The reason writing a 4-page memo is harder than “writing” a 20 page powerpoint is because the narrative structure of a good memo forces better thought and better understanding of what’s more important than what, and how things are related. Jeff Bezos, Founder and CEO of Amazon

Living in this complicated world, and working with in a competitive industry, clearity of thought seems not to be too bad of a thing. Hence this site is mainly thought of as a writing experiment to help me improve my own writing - Hopefully it will also lead to essays, that can fuel a debate with fellow pundits.
